Job description

Overview

Position Overview: Responsible for serving as the primary onsite quality support to all team members and the crafts by managing the development and implementation of the Site-Specific Quality Plan and by researching/answering questions regarding quality. The Field Quality Manager (FQM) is a member of the project management team, able to work with minimal supervision, and takes the lead role in managing project quality and establishing the expected level of workmanship. This position requires developing thorough knowledge of the project and schedule as they apply to QA/QC.

Location & Travel Details

Opportunities to travel across the US, supporting renewable project construction. This is a traveling position, up to 100% of the time, with placements possible in any state. Expect to spend 8-12 months per project, with designated daily per diem, a company vehicle, and fuel card. Routine travel home is available based on rotation.

Responsibilities
  1. Promote and comply with all safety policies and procedures.
  2. Manage the Site-Specific Quality Plan to meet quality standards and client expectations.
  3. Read and interpret plans and specifications, visualizing 3D from 2D drawings.
  4. Examine field conditions, identify issues, and take corrective actions.
  5. Inspect work for compliance, identify deficiencies, and implement corrective measures.
  6. Listen to team suggestions and concerns, evaluate, and plan actions accordingly.
  7. Monitor installed equipment/system functioning for hazards or adjustments needed.
  8. Ensure quality work meeting standards and specifications.
  9. Maintain knowledge of MasTec Quality Control Manual and procedures.
  10. Mentor and train QA/QC inspectors.
  11. Prepare and review the Monthly Project Quality Report.
  12. Conduct quality walkarounds and participate in weekly reviews.
  13. Perform field inspections and tests aligned with construction schedules.
  14. Conduct weekly quality audits.
  15. Ensure timely testing and interpretation of results.
  16. Provide training on quality processes to supervision and craftsmen.
  17. Contribute QA/QC input to task planning and develop procedures as needed.
  18. Organize and maintain QA/QC documentation.
  19. Review third-party test results for compliance.
  20. Identify and address quality issues, including nonconformance notices.
  21. Train Field Engineers on quality standards.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in relevant fields.
  • At least two years of quality experience in construction or operations.
  • Trade certifications preferred.
Skills and Abilities
  • Commitment to safety and health standards.
  • Organizational and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of construction codes (ACI, AWS, ASME, NEC).
  • Understanding of crafts, inspection, and testing techniques.
  • Familiarity with quality metrics and continuous improvement principles.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and quality documentation software.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and regulations.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Mentoring and collaborative skills for quality development.
