Job summary

Saiia Construction Company LLC, a MasTec company, is hiring a Project Engineer for Chester, VA. This field-based role supports planning, execution, QA/QC, documentation, and closeout of heavy civil construction projects.

You will coordinate with Project Management, site supervision, customers, subcontractors, and vendors, performing field testing, drafting, and records management on active sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field is required.
• Minimum of 1 year of project engineering or heavy civil construction experience preferred.
• PE license preferred.
• Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record is required.
• Must be able to work in field environment and travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Support the project team from preconstruction planning through project completion and closeout.
• Interpret plans, drawings, specifications, and submittals for site leadership; coordinate with the Project Manager to resolve conflicts.
• Perform drafting, digitizing, mapping, graphical presentations, quantity takeoffs, and drawing revisions using AutoCAD Civil 3D or equivalent CAD/modeling software.
• Provide field engineering support including survey verification, grading checks, material installation validation, and as-built documentation.
• Perform soil sampling, compaction testing, and other field sampling activities; maintain chain-of-custody and test documentation.
• Review test reports from third-party testing firms to identify errors and escalation needs.
• Conduct daily field inspections to verify compliance with codes, drawings, specs, and quality program.
