Job summary

Detroit Action is seeking Field Organizers to support year-round campaigns, outreach and leadership development. The role focuses on engaging and retaining members, building leaders, and executing campaign strategy in Detroit, MI.

It emphasizes rapid follow-up, outreach to grow a base of member-leaders and allies through relational organizing. Candidates should have experience in grassroots organizing, leadership development, and ability to work across communities.

Qualifications

• Experience organizing across racial and cultural lines.
• Experience doing community, labor, or political organizing.
• Experience in grassroots membership or social justice organization.
• Knowledge of Detroit community, history and issues.

Responsibilities

• Engage, activate and retain members/canvassers; develop a team of leaders.
• Develop an individual strategic plan to meet recruitment and outreach goals.
• Timely follow up with leads from field efforts and build relationships.
• Support neighborhood chapters, issue committees and caucuses.
• Attend actions, training and mobilization to activate members.
• Mobilize and track engagement of members at events and field opportunities.
• Develop educational materials and leadership development for affiliate leaders.
• Generate petition sign-ups to support organizational goals.
• Engage potential new members via meetings and follow ups to convert recruits to annual DA members.
• Hire, train and oversee canvassers; plan canvassing strategy.
• Supervise canvassers who survey members of the public for data collection.
