Job summary

Energy Transfer is seeking a Field Optimization Engineer in Midland, TX to advance field operations through hydraulic and process modeling, compressor performance evaluations, and capital project execution.

You will lead projects from scoping through commissioning, coordinating with operations, planning, and construction teams while ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and schedule adherence. This role requires extensive field experience and travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required.
  • Experience in natural gas treating, fractionation, or processing is required.
  • 5+ years of combined engineering, operations, and/or project experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft products and engineering programs.

Responsibilities

  • Model hydraulic and process systems to identify opportunities and project scope.
  • Perform compressor performance runs to ensure optimal field compression.
  • Manage regional gas gathering, processing, and treating plant projects within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Lead full project cycle for growth capital projects from scoping to completion.
  • Guide Construction Group on engineering projects during execution and inspection activities.
  • Maintain cost and schedule discipline to meet commercial commitments.
  • Coordinate with operations, controls, planning, and contractors for project implementation.
  • Participate in PSM activities including reviews, PHAs, LOPAs, MOCs, and training.
  • Review designs, drawings, and studies for technical accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local regulations and internal policies.
  • Collaborate with system planning to maintain standards and safe practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Field Optimization Engineer will perform system hydraulic modeling and process modeling to identify areas of opportunity and projects for improved operational performance
  • Fiel Optimization Engineer will perform compressor performance runs to ensure optimal field compression performance for operational reliability.
  • Field Optimization Engineer is responsible for regional gas gathering and processing and treating plant projects, field gathering projects, and will manage these capital growth projects and/or other operations or commercial-derived projects meeting project scope, budget, and schedule requirements.
  • Implement entire project cycle for growth capital projects including: scope and design development, AFE preparation and submittals, material procurement, execution and construction oversite, commissioning, and project completion.
  • Work with (and guide) the Construction Group members in construction and inspection activities on engineering projects.
  • Projects are driven by cost and schedule to meet commercial commitments.
  • Communicate with stakeholders including operations personnel, cost controls, project controls, project planning, and contractors for project implementation.
  • Participate in PSM activities for growth projects and develop and implement PSM work, including Design reviews, PHAs, LOPAs, MOCs, training, etc.
  • Responsible for technical review of designs, drawings, and studies.
  • Ensure work complies with federal, state, and local regulations (including safety, environmental, and DOT) and internal policies and procedures.
  • Work with system planning engineering group to develop projects that follow engineering standards, code compliance, proper company and safety standards, and good engineering practices.
  • Proactively seeks opportunities to broaden and deepen project management knowledge base and proficiencies.
Required Skills (External)
  • Bachelor’s in Engineering Discipline (ChemE or ME preferred)
  • Previous experience in Natural Gas treating, fractionation, or processing industry
  • 5+ years of combined engineering, operations, and/or project experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Products and Engineering Programs
Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:
  • The Engineer level requires a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and 3-6 years of relevant job‑related experience
  • The Senior Engineer level requires a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and 6-8 years of relevant job‑related experience
  • The Senior Engineer II level requires a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and 8+ years of relevant job‑related experience
  • The Staff Engineer level requires Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and 12+ years of relevant job‑related experience
  • The Principal Engineer level requires Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and 20+ years of relevant job‑related experience with a strong preference for a PE license
Working Conditions:
  • Normal office working conditions or at the project site.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Overnight travel is required when necessary to manage projects.
  • Occasional visits to industrial/manufacturing settings may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, extreme temperature conditions, and loud machinery and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
