Baker Hughes is recruiting for a Field Operator – Rover in the Midland area. This entry‑level field role supports drilling services operations, handling surface and downhole equipment, and working with experienced field teams.
The position emphasizes safety, reliability, and hands‑on learning at the wellsite and workshop. You will rotate through rigging, equipment operation, and documentation tasks while developing field skills and knowledge of regulatory requirements.

As a Field Operator – Rover, you’ll support Drilling Services operations across multiple locations. You’ll learn how to handle, operate, and maintain drilling surface and downhole equipment while working alongside experienced field teams. This is an entry‑level role designed for individuals with oil & gas exposure who want to grow into a long‑term field career.
You’ll work in challenging environments, support rig operations, and ensure safe, reliable execution at the wellsite and workshop.
Supporting routine wellsite and workshop tasks under general supervision
Learning to operate, handle, and maintain Drilling Services surface and downhole tools
Rigging up and rigging down equipment safely and efficiently
Developing hoisting and BHA‑handling skills during field operations
Operating and calibrating surface equipment as instructed
Maintaining accurate wellsite records, logs, and communication updates
Completing job‑related paperwork for yourself and assigned crew
Following all radiation, safety, and regulatory requirements for Drilling Services operations
Driving company vehicles safely and arriving on location as scheduled
Participating in quality improvement and continuous learning activities
Promoting strong customer relationships at the wellsite
Performing all duties in compliance with Baker Hughes HSE policies, Legal Compliance, and Core Values
Supporting additional operational tasks as required
To be successful in this role, you will have:
High school diploma or equivalent
Some oil & gas experience (rig, frac, wireline, drilling, or industrial field work)
Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
Ability to work long hours, outdoors, and in demanding field conditions
Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
Ability to travel frequently and work a flexible schedule (nights, weekends, on‑call)
Commitment to safety, teamwork, and following procedures
CDL or willingness to obtain
Previous field exposure in drilling, completions, or wellsite operations
