STATE OF FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION in Palm Beach County is seeking a Field Operations Supervisor II to oversee daily field work in West Palm Beach. You will supervise teams, coordinate schedules and resources, and monitor progress to meet goals while maintaining safety standards.

The role requires a Class B CDL with air brakes, on-call duties, and compliance with FDOT policies. This is a full-time SES position in District Four's Palm Beach Operations.

Qualifications

  • Requires valid Class B CDL with air brakes at time of hire.
  • Must obtain Temporary Traffic Control – Advanced Level within one year.

The Work You Will Do

Field Operations Supervisor II - District Four/Director of Operations/District Maintenance/West Palm Maintenance/Field Support

This position will oversee daily field operations to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with standards. This role supervises field teams, coordinates schedules and resources, and monitors project progress to meet operational goals and deadlines. The supervisor provides guidance, training, and performance feedback to staff while maintaining compliance with safety regulations and company policies. They also collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to resolve issues, improve processes, and support overall operational performance.

Annual Salary Range

Your Specific Responsibilities

Supervises employees spending majority of their time communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees, and planning and directing employees’ work.
Develops work schedule and assigns trades work and routine maintenance activities for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) crews. Issues daily work assignments to Trades personnel, FDOT crews and provides them with the appropriate tools, equipment and materials to complete assignments.
Performs field inspections to verify the quantity and quality of work completed. Ensures work is performed in compliance with Standard Building Codes and Standard Indexes and FDOT policies and procedures. Verifies FDOT production, work time, materials, equipment usage and locations are reported accurately on crew sheets.
Performs work need surveys and plans work based on priorities. Submits planned work schedules to the Unit’s Maintenance Management System’s (MMS) Manager. Coordinates with the MMS Manager to plan resources and unit goals for FDOT.
Performs minor operational maintenance and ensures that the proper periodic preventative maintenance schedule is performed in a timely manner and that equipment is kept in good working condition by coordinating with the local shop. Ensures that FDOT crews are following procedures for equipment maintenance and inspections.

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Other Job-Related Requirements
  • Due to the nature of this position, the incumbent must respond to emergencies and be “on call” (24‑hour duty) when necessary. While on‑duty status, the position’s incumbent must be readily available to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), consistent with the type of commercial driver’s license (CDL). The incumbent is required to possess, or on a routine basis, perform other CMV safety‑sensitive functions. Possess a valid Class “B” CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with air brakes is required at time of hire. Must obtain certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) – Advanced Level within one year and maintain it.
Requirements

This position requires a valid Class B driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:

  • three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation;
  • any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years;
  • a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and
  • a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years.

Your driving record will be reviewed and the status of your driver license confirmed.

In order to be eligible for hire into a position requiring a Commercial Driver License (CDL), applicants must register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Drug and Alcohol (FMCSA) Clearinghouse, as required, for the Department to conduct a pre‑employment query. A mandatory drug screening will be performed on the successful applicant.
