Job description

DP Electric is a premier commercial electrical contractor with more than 30 years of experience delivering complex electrical projects across Arizona, Texas, and the Southwest. As a 100% employee-owned company, we serve a diverse range of markets including data centers, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, aviation, higher education, commercial, and industrial.

At the heart of DP Electric’s success is its dedication to cultivating industry-leading talent. Through our in-house training program, DP University, we equip employees with advanced skills and expertise to meet the ever-changing demands of modern construction. By combining technical excellence with a client-first approach, we continue to set the standard for electrical contracting in the Southwest.

The Opportunity

The Field Operations Manager leads field operations across their division, including the field teams, operations scheduling, and the superintendent group. You will own manpower forecasting, field leadership hiring and assignments, and the project performance that comes out of both.

This seat sits where the office meets the field. You will build the man-loaded schedules that drive forecasting, hiring decisions, and margin, review cost reports and work with crews to fix what is slipping, and partner with estimating, project management, prefab, QA/QC, safety, and recruiting. You will also own the careers of the field leaders under you, from career pathing and advancement through wage increases and performance reviews.

What You'll Do

Lead the Field Organization

  • Provide leadership and direction to the field operations, scheduling, and superintendent teams, aligning their efforts with company objectives and core values.
  • Manage field leadership hiring and oversee all field terminations, working closely with the Director on hiring decisions.
  • Supervise the manpower scheduling team and manage day-to-day job assignments.
  • Oversee all field leadership project assignments.
  • Bridge communication and collaboration between office and field operations so project objectives and requirements stay clear across teams.
  • Collaborate with the Director to set goals and objectives for the field operations department, and monitor progress against key metrics.

Forecast and Staff the Work

  • Oversee manpower forecasting for all open projects and collaborate with the Director on overall forecasting.
  • Create and maintain project-specific man-loaded schedules that inform manpower forecasting, hiring decisions, and project profit margins.
  • Communicate regularly with the recruiting team on field-related hiring needs.
  • Work closely with the logistics team on scheduling and forecasting, keeping tool, material, and equipment processes consistent across projects.

Drive Project Performance

  • Collaborate on project budget development, tracking, and oversight.
  • Review project cost reports regularly to identify issues, and work with field teams to correct cost and schedule inefficiencies.
  • Collaborate with estimating, project management, superintendents, and foremen to pre-plan projects.
  • Monitor and teach field leaders on project tracking tools, including progress drawing sets, feeder and conduit schedules, and outstanding work items.
  • Oversee and optimize field operations processes to improve efficiency, productivity, and overall project performance.
  • Develop and implement best practices for project execution, and drive continuous improvement across field operations.

Develop the Field Team

  • Conduct career pathing discussions, manage advancements, and approve wage increases for the field team.
  • Perform quarterly check-ins and annual performance reviews with direct reports.
  • Work closely with the Director of Field Leadership Development so field employees progress and are exposed to the duties outlined in the leadership development SOP.
  • Counsel and address field-related HR issues, working closely with HR and Operations toward resolution.

Set and Hold the Standards

  • Work with the Director of Field Operations on companywide initiatives, implementation, standardization, and policy.
  • Collaborate with field-related departments on policies and procedures, and assist with implementation, training, and enforcement.
  • Work closely with the Prefabrication Manager on policies and procedures, and promote prefabrication among field leadership.
  • Collaborate with the QA/QC team on policies and procedures, and uphold them with field leaders.
  • Champion a culture of safety excellence, promoting a zero-incident mindset and holding adherence to safety regulations and standards.
  • Champion a culture of quality excellence, promoting a no-rework, do-it-right-the-first-time mindset.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders, and stay current with industry trends, regulations, and advancements.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Ten (10) or more years of progressive experience in electrical construction operations.
  • Five (5) or more years in a leadership or executive-level field operations role.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience managing large-scale construction projects and field teams.
  • Demonstrated success implementing operational efficiencies and innovations.

We recognize that experience comes from many paths. An equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience that results in successful performance of the job is welcomed. Additional education may substitute for required experience on a one-for-one year basis, or vice versa.

This role splits time between the office and active construction sites. Work takes place both indoors and outdoors with exposure to weather and jobsite conditions. The role involves lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing, and crawling, and requires wearing personal protective equipment. Expect a fast-paced environment that calls for sound judgment under pressure.
