Job summary

Merit General Contractors is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to support daily field operations on commercial construction projects. The role emphasizes coordinating subcontractors, reviewing drawings, and maintaining Procore documentation to ensure safety, quality, and schedule adherence.

The ideal candidate will spend most days in the field, communicate issues proactively, and progress toward independent Superintendent responsibilities while upholding Merit’s safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of commercial construction field experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Basic understanding of sequencing, safety, and quality requirements.
• Strong communication, organization, initiative, and willingness to learn.
• OSHA 30 or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily coordination and supervision of field activities.
• Review plans, specifications, shop drawings, and project information before work is installed.
• Coordinate subcontractors and verify manpower, materials, equipment, and access.
• Participate in daily planning and short-term look-ahead discussions.
• Perform field walks to identify safety, quality, and coordination issues.
• Assist with safety orientations, toolbox talks, and safety requirements.
• Verify work is installed per drawings, specs, submittals, and standards.
• Coordinate inspections and assist with preparations for authority/owner inspections.
• Maintain daily reports, photos, and field observations in Procore.
• Track deliveries, material storage, site access, and field logistics.
• Assist with layout verification and coordination of installed work.
• Identify field conflicts and communicate RFIs to Superintendent/PM.
• Assist with three-week look-ahead schedule updates.
• Monitor punch lists and drive corrective work to completion.
• Maintain clean, organized project areas.
• Support commissioning, startup, turnover, and closeout activities.
• Develop increasing responsibility for specific areas/phases.
• Maintain professional relationships with subcontractors, inspectors, and staff.
