Job summary

Van Metre seeks an Assistant Construction Manager (Field Assistant) to support our Home Finish & Quality Assurance team with Van Metre Homes. You will bridge field learning with independent execution, managing key jobsite responsibilities with increasing ownership and mentorship toward future leadership.

You will own daily site operations, coordinate trades, uphold safety and quality, and engage with Field Managers to review plans and troubleshoot issues.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn through hands-on work.
• Clear communicator with an organized, observant, and proactive approach.
• Interest in quality building systems and Lean construction practices.
• Tech-savvy and comfortable using mobile apps and digital workflows.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of assigned jobsite responsibilities with increasing independence and accountability.
• Execute daily jobsite operations by coordinating trade activity and updating schedules.
• Manage trade coordination for assigned activities to ensure build quality and accountability.
• Monitor and uphold safety, cleanliness, and environmental standards on-site.
• Participate in municipal and internal inspections to build knowledge of compliance and QA.
• Engage regularly with Field Managers and peers to review plans, troubleshoot issues, and improve execution.
• Demonstrate professional curiosity, initiative, and accountability in daily responsibilities.
• Model a continuous improvement mindset by applying Lean practices in the field.
