Job summary

Van Metre Homes is seeking an Assistant Construction Manager (Field Assistant) to support our Home Finish & Quality Assurance team. This role bridges field learning with hands-on execution, handling key on-site tasks with increasing ownership.

You will coordinate trades, monitor safety, participate in inspections, and work closely with Field Managers to improve build quality. A Bachelor’s in Construction Management or equivalent experience is required, along with a proactive, communicative

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field (or equivalent experience/training).
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn through hands-on work.
• Clear communicator with an organized, observant, and proactive approach.
• Interest in quality building systems and Lean construction practices.
• Tech-savvy and comfortable using mobile apps and digital workflows.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of assigned jobsite responsibilities with increasing independence and accountability.
• Execute daily jobsite operations by coordinating trade activity and updating schedules.
• Manage trade coordination for assigned activities to ensure build quality and accountability.
• Monitor and uphold safety, cleanliness, and environmental standards on-site.
• Participate in municipal and internal inspections to build knowledge of compliance and QA.
• Engage regularly with Field Managers and peers to review plans, troubleshoot issues, and improve execution.
• Demonstrate professional curiosity, initiative, and accountability in daily responsibilities.
• Model a continuous improvement mindset by applying Lean practices in the field.
