Job summary

Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company seek a Network Technician C to support underground radial feeds, loop feeds, street lighting, service and meters for residential and commercial systems in Louisville.

You will learn to work with aerial lifts, poles, transformers and protective devices while collaborating with senior technicians. This entry-level role emphasizes safety, training, and progression through classifications within the distribution network.

Qualifications

• Must be able to lead, direct and train other employees
• Must adhere to all safety rules and procedures
• Ability to read and understand instructions and reports
• Must have or be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
• Willing to work inside/outside under varying weather conditions
• Able to learn to use tools and equipment used in line work
• Must be able to communicate through written and verbal reports
• Must be in good health and able to perform physical requirements of the job
• Willing to participate in training and testing programs
• Must be able to work around energized conductors
• Demonstrated proficiency in performing duties of lower classifications
• Ability to learn to read drawings and sketches
• Ability to take measurements with rulers and tapes
• Must be able to operate and maintain electrical distribution equipment
• Ability to respond to call-ins for off-hour trouble response
• Must maintain professional conduct and appearance around the community
• Must be able to work with aerial lifts, poles, towers and other elevated structures

Responsibilities

• Follow safety rules and company procedures.
• Assist and/or train other employees in operating procedures.
• Report to locations for training and participate actively.
• Demonstrate competency through job duties and testing programs.
• Monitor equipment and report damaged or defective items.
• Perform duties of lower or higher classifications as directed.
• Keep tools and work areas clean and orderly.
• Report to facilities for shifts as needed.
• Represent the Company with professional conduct and attitude.
• Compile information and generate required reports/docs.
• Learn to work with tools/equipment used by Network Technician classifications.
• Assist in installation, removal and maintenance of equipment.
• Aid in splicing and termination of conductors.
• Learn proper wiring connections on transformers.
• Learn to take voltage/current measurements.
• Learn to distinguish energized from de-energized conductors.
• Learn to monitor and maintain network components.
• Learn to investigate customer complaints.
• Work near energized conductors with safety awareness
