Job summary

GFiber is hiring a Special Projects Deployment Engineer to physically install and commission network nodes across regional markets. You will rack, stack, and cabling, ensuring secure hardware integration, power checks, and thorough site testing.

This role requires extensive travel and hands-on engineering to deliver reliable, scalable internet infrastructure. The position emphasizes autonomous field work, with opportunities to lead critical deployments and troubleshoot in live environments,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3 years of experience working independently in high-pressure field environments with minimal supervision, managing time and logistics effectively.
• Experience with standard networking protocols (TCP/IP, VLAN tagging, subnetting, DHCP, basic routing policies) and the OSI model.
• Ability to travel up to 60–75% of the time domestically.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs of networking equipment, climb ladders, and work inside tight server room environments or telecom closets.

Responsibilities

• Rack & Stack: Physically install, mount, and secure network hardware including routers, switches, firewalls, and PDUs.
• Structured Cabling: Patch copper and fiber installations with clean cable management and labeling.
• Power & Environmental Verification: Check power redundancy, circuits, and thermal cooling before energizing hardware.
• Site Acceptance Testing: Run tests to verify throughput, optical power, and failover paths before handover to NOC.
• Field Diagnosis: Serve as the primary fault-resolver when remote teams lose connectivity.
• Optical Layer Testing: Use OTDRs and fiber tools to diagnose breaks or degraded optics.
