Job summary

gFiber is seeking a Special Projects Deployment Engineer to travel regionally and turn raw spaces into fully operational network nodes. You will install routers, switches, and PDUs, perform structured cabling, and verify power and cooling before commissioning sites.

You will conduct site tests, diagnose field issues, and use OTDRs and fiber meters to ensure optical integrity. Candidates must be able to lift 50 lbs, travel frequently, and hold a technical degree with field experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience working independently in high-pressure field environments with minimal supervision, managing time and logistics effectively.
• Ability to travel up to 60–75% of the time domestically.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs of networking equipment, climb ladders, and work inside tight server room environments or telecom closets.

Responsibilities

• Rack & Stack: physically install and secure routers, switches, firewalls, and PDUs.
• Structured Cabling: copper and fiber installations with clean labeling.
• Power & Environmental Verification: verify power redundancy and cooling alignment.
• Site Acceptance Testing: run tests for throughput and failover before handover to NOC.
• Field Diagnosis: act as primary tech for field outages when remote teams lose connectivity.
• Optical Layer Testing: use OTDRs and fiber meters to diagnose issues.
