Job summary

City of Lufkin seeks a Meter Reader to support accurate water usage data collection for residential and commercial properties. You will operate handheld devices, follow routes, and ensure reliable utility billing while maintaining safety standards.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver license. Prior meter reading experience is preferred but not required; training will be provided as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid Driver's License required at time of placement.
• Meter reading or field data collection experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Read water meters on assigned routes using handheld devices or manual methods and record readings accurately.
• Follow routes and schedules, update accounts and adjust routes as needed.
• Inspect meters for damage, tampering, or leaks and report findings promptly.
• Interact professionally with customers and assist with questions about meter access or services.
• Record readings and related data in designated forms or electronic systems, ensuring data integrity.
• Maintain and care for reading equipment and report any malfunctions or needed repairs.
• Identify opportunities to optimize routes for efficiency and productivity.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
