Cardiovascular Utilization Management Reviewer (Interventional Cardiologist)

What You’ll Do

• Provide expert reviews for cardiovascular cases, including invasive/interventional procedures (e.g., cardiac catheterizations, coronary interventions, endovascular procedures, implantable cardiac devices) that do not meet initial medical necessity guidelines or require further evaluation.
• Conduct peer-to-peer discussions with treating providers to ensure appropriate, high-value care aligned with clinical guidelines.
• Collaborate with leadership, management, and clinical staff on complex cases and decision-making.
• Guide Initial Clinical Reviewers, ensuring best practices are followed.
• Provide clinical rationale for standard and expedited appeals.
• Discuss determinations with requesting physicians within regulatory timeframes.
• Use medical review guidelines to ensure consistency, compliance with policies, URAC, and NCQA standards.
• Document all communications accurately and timely.
• Participate in ongoing training and quality assurance activities.
• Assist in research activities related to utilization management as needed.
• Potentially serve as Medical Director for select health plans or regions, overseeing utilization management.

Qualifications

• MD/DO/MBBS Degree
• Current, unrestricted clinical license in medicine or relevant specialty
• State licensure in your residence and other states as required
• Active Board Certification in Interventional Cardiology or equivalent credentials as specified
• Strong clinical, management, communication, and organizational skills
• Passion for quality and value in healthcare
• Proficiency with computers
• Minimum five years’ experience in cardiology preferred
• No current exclusion or sanctions by healthcare programs or agencies
• No major disciplinary or legal actions against you

Technical Requirements
