Job summary

M. J. Electric, LLC, a Quanta Services company, is seeking a Field Mechanic to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems, and heavy equipment used for electrical construction projects across the region.

The role requires 2–4 years of hands-on experience, a valid CDL, ability to read schematics, and strong welding skills. Extensive travel and DOT-related inspections are part of the job, with competitive benefits offered.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of experience diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment or trucks.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics, maintenance manuals, and diagrams.
• Strong welding (Stick/MIG) and fabrication skills.
• Must possess a valid CDL (Class A or B) and DOT knowledge.
• Willingness to travel to job sites across the region.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, inspect and repair diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic and electrical systems, air conditioning, compressors, generators, and suspension components.
• Replace and repair damaged components; perform maintenance and engine flushing/oil changes.
• Troubleshoot and repair heavy equipment, trailers, and aerial lift platforms; conduct annual DOT and crane inspections.
• Perform vehicle preventative maintenance and travel to various project sites as needed.

About this Role – Field Mechanic

We are looking for a talented Field Mechanic who has a passion for quality construction. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing all types of wire pulling and stringing equipment, heavy equipment, trailers, and vehicles used for electrical construction projects throughout the region.

What You’ll Do

• Diagnose, inspect and repair diesel engines, gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, electrical systems, air conditioning systems, compressors, generators, suspensions, brakes, transmissions, fuel injection systems, ignition systems and air tools
• Replace and repair damaged components
• Perform engine flushing/cleaning, parts lubrication, oil changes and maintenance checks and all equipment
• Troubleshoot, maintain, and repairing all types of heavy equipment, trailers,aerial lift platforms, bulldozer, bucket trucks
• Annual DOT and Crane Inspections
• Perform vehicle preventative maintenance
• Extensive travel required

What You’ll Bring

• 2-4 years experience diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment (wheeled and tracked) or trucks
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics, maintenance manuals, service bulletins and diagrams
• Strong welding (Stick/MIG) and fabrication skills
• Must possess a valid class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
• Basic understanding of DOT Regulations
• Basic understanding of iPhones, iPads and computers
• Good organizational and recordkeeping skills
• Proficient in the use of diagnostic and testing equipment
• Customer service skills
• High School graduate.
• Must possess a valid class A Commercial Drive License (CDL) or have the ability to obtain one.
• Ability to travel to job sites and provide mechanical oversight to equipment on numerous projects throughout the region.
