This position operates primarily in the field, traveling to various plant sites to ensure maximum operational uptime and efficiency.

As a key member of the maintenance team, the Field Mechanic must embody Martin Marietta’s ‘Safety First’ culture, prioritizing a zero‑incident environment while performing complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical repairs. The role requires a highly motivated individual capable of working independently in various outdoor environments to support the production of hot mix asphalt materials.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled mechanical repairs on diesel‑powered mobile equipment (loaders, haul trucks, pavers) including engine rebuilds, transmission repairs, and the removal/installation of major mechanical parts.
  • Utilize cutting torches, welders (MIG/TIG/Stick), and grinders to perform field fabrication, structural repairs, and equipment modifications.
  • Execute scheduled PM services and lubrication protocols according to manufacturer specifications and Martin Marietta’s Maintenance Module.
  • Conduct oil sampling, filter changes, and pressure testing to identify potential failures before they occur.
  • Maintain accurate electronic and paper documentation of all work performed, materials used, and equipment health status.
  • Perform intermediate to advanced troubleshooting of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
  • Use diagnostic software and tools (CAT ET, scanners) to analyze engine performance and system faults on modern heavy equipment.
  • Interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and hydraulic/electrical schematics to execute precise repairs.
  • Actively participate in all safety initiatives, including SLAM (Stop, Look, Analyze, Manage) and pre‑shift safety inspections of work areas and equipment.
  • Conduct mandatory OSHA pre‑shift safety inspections of work areas and equipment.
  • Strictly adhere to Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out (LOTO) procedures and all company safety initiatives (Guardian Angel Creed).
  • Actively participate in the hazard recognition program by documenting near‑misses and implementing safety improvements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized service truck and work area to prevent hazards and ensure environmental compliance.
  • Collaborate with Plant Managers and Superintendents to prioritize backlogs and minimize production downtime.
