Job summary

The City of Tuscaloosa is seeking a general laborer for installation, maintenance and repair work across roadways, water systems, and related infrastructure. The role involves manual labor, operating various construction tools, and maintaining safety at work sites.

You will perform routine vehicle and equipment upkeep, assist with litter collection and waste/recycling operations, and respond to dispatch requests while upholding professional customer service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred; CDL Class B preferred but not required.
• Valid driver's license required.
• This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to pre-employment and random drug screening.
• Must meet physical and manual labor requirements.
• Ability to operate a variety of construction and maintenance equipment.

Responsibilities

• Installs, maintains, and repairs roadways, water mains, and hydrants.
• Operates a wide range of construction equipment and tools.
• Maintains vehicles and equipment; performs preventive maintenance.
• Transports, loads, and unloads equipment and materials.
• Performs solid waste pickup and recycling duties; collects litter.
• Communicates via two-way radio and dispatch requests.
