Job summary

Lynker is hiring a Survey Watch Stander and Video Annotation Specialist to support mesophotic deep benthic surveys in the Gulf of Mexico. The role involves at-sea mapping, video annotation, data management, and scientific reporting aboard NOAA-supported missions from Panama City, Florida.

Requirements include a master’s degree in marine science (or bachelor with experience), strong data handling skills, and the ability to coordinate field crews at sea. Travel and fieldwork are expected.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in marine science or a Bachelor’s with 1+ year of relevant experience.
• Strong computer literacy with word processing, databases, statistics, and graphics programs.
• Ability to prepare college-level reports and deliver oral presentations.
• Experience as a data collector during at-sea surveys.
• Knowledge of software handling hydrological and biological data streams.
• Proficiency with fish, invertebrate, and protected-species identification books/keys.
• Knowledge of Gulf of America reef taxa.
• Familiarity with mesophotic and deep benthic communities.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a Survey Watch Stander aboard NOAA ships and small research vessels.
• Coordinate field crews conducting fisheries, biological, environmental, and water-quality sampling.
• Support at-sea mapping and ground-truthing as Field Party Chief or Watch Leader.
• Annotate, review, and quality-control video footage from ROVs.
• Enter and validate data in Mesophotic and Deep Benthic Communities databases.
• Prepare data reports, summaries, and scientific visuals.
