Job summary

Christman Constructors, Inc. is seeking a Field Layout Engineer in Michigan to join our Central or West Michigan teams. This role focuses on layout control for complex construction projects and alignment accuracy.

You will establish reference points, verify elevations, and ensure tolerances meet quality standards while coordinating with project staff.

Experience with Total Station and surveying equipment; trade-school certificate preferred.

Qualifications

Three or more years of experience in Building Layout and using Total Station.
Graduation from relevant trade school with certificate in surveying, or equivalent.
Experience with layout control on construction projects and related surveying practices.

Responsibilities

Plan, set up, and maintain layout control for construction projects.
Ensure projects are built to correct tolerances and quality standards.
Establish building corners and permanent reference points for back checks.
Verify elevations shown on drawings for roadways and utilities.
Lay out column center lines and wall locations; verify exterior skin clearances.
Plumb structural steel frames and check column alignments.
Set benchmarks and control lines on each floor and verify proper elevations.
Perform as-built surveys and identify conflicts between work items.
Coordinate shop drawings with contract drawings and suggest solutions.
Maintain calibration of surveying equipment and project records.
