Job summary

Polk County BoCC is seeking a Land Development Inspector I–IV to perform field inspections of utility, roadway, and site development projects. This non-exempt role requires interpreting plans, ensuring code compliance, and coordinating with contractors on complex construction sites.

The position offers a salary in the hourly range shown and benefits including health, retirement, paid time off, and tuition incentives.

Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
Two (2) years of experience in roadway/highway, water/wastewater, or site development construction or inspection preferred.
Must obtain MOT certification within 6 months of employment and FDOT Plans Reading and Sediment/Erosion Control certifications within 24 months.

Responsibilities

Interprets engineering design plans, specifications, and construction documents.
Observes and inspects construction activities, techniques, workmanship, and materials for compliance.
Ensures adherence to applicable codes and standards through regular field inspections.
Maintains accurate records of project progress and inspection findings.
Coordinates with contractors, consultants, and stakeholders to resolve site issues.
Reviews contractor pay requests and recommends project acceptance or release after final inspections.
