Job summary

City of Slidell is seeking a general laborer to perform manual tasks outdoors, service and wash vehicles, load and move materials, and operate basic hand-held equipment. The role requires safety awareness and the ability to follow instructions in a municipal work setting.

You will assist with landscaping, operate small engines, and support public utilities and works projects, including cement work and traffic flagging.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds (Public Utilities).
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 90 pounds (Public Works).

Responsibilities

• Services and washes vehicles and equipment.
• Loads, unloads, and moves materials and equipment.
• Operates hand-held equipment such as an earth compactor and jack hammer.
• Maintains landscaping of City grounds and rights of way.
• Operates small engines and minor automotive equipment like mowers and chainsaws.
• Drives City vehicles with a valid class E license.
• Performs minor repairs and maintenance on structures or water systems.
• Performs rough carpentry (fences, forms, crates).
• Assist with cement pouring, flagging traffic, trenching.
