Job summary

Shelby Materials in Brownsburg, IN is seeking a Ready-Mix Concrete Quality Control Technician to support field and lab testing, ensuring concrete meets ASTM/ACI and project specs.

You will test fresh concrete, prepare cylinders, document results, communicate issues promptly, and collaborate with QC and production teams to maintain pours on schedule. This hands-on role offers growth with a trusted local company.

Qualifications

• 1+ year experience in concrete field testing or a similar role
• High school diploma or equivalent is required; technical training or coursework in construction materials is a plus
• Knowledge of concrete testing methods and equipment; familiarity with ASTM/ACI standards preferred
• ACI certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
• Ability to interpret technical specifications and communicate them clearly
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Physically able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and lift/move materials
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record

Responsibilities

• Perform field testing on freshly mixed concrete for slump/workability, air content, temperature, and other properties
• Communicate professionally with customers and contractors on jobsites; relay information and help manage pours and truck flow
• Sample and test hardened concrete specimens and maintain proper curing and handling practices
• Document and record test results accurately; maintain detailed records of testing activities and jobsite observations
• Monitor production quality and work with QC and production teams to troubleshoot issues and improve consistency
• Assist with concrete mix design adjustments and optimization to meet quality and performance standards
• Follow safety protocols and quality procedures on job sites and with required PPE
