Job summary

The California Department of Industrial Relations is seeking a Deputy Labor Commissioner II to lead complex investigations and enforcement efforts across wage and hour and labor law areas. The role demands subject-matter expertise, mentorship of staff, and the ability to develop new tools to improve investigations.

Occasional travel to field locations, irregular hours, and field operations are expected. A SOQ is required, with statewide assignment opportunities in the Bay Area or nearby offices;

Responsibilities

• Lead investigations on complex and sensitive cases involving enforcement of IWC orders and labor laws
• Serve as subject-matter expert and mentor to lower-level staff
• Develop new tools and strategies to enhance investigation effectiveness and efficiency
• Collaborate with BOFE, LETF, and PAGA units and other government entities as needed
