Job summary

ACS is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Technician to join our team in Verona, WI. This hands-on role supports instrumentation and controls for diverse process and industrial projects, with substantial time at customer sites for installation, startup, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.

You will work with controls engineers and technicians, interpreting design specifications, and wiring diagrams while supporting manufacturing at our Verona facility.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or equivalent in industrial/automation field preferred.
• 1–2 years field experience with commissioning and startup of PLC-based control systems.
• Experience with instrumentation, calibration, checkout, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control drawings.
• PLC and HMI programming or integration experience.
• Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel 50–75% to customer sites, including overnight stays up to two weeks.

Responsibilities

• Travel to customer sites to support instrumentation and controls activities including installation, startup, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
• Perform I/O checkout, troubleshooting, and instrument calibration.
• Collaborate with engineers, electricians, contractors, and customer personnel to support installation and resolve field issues.
• When not on customer sites, support control panel assembly, wiring, and system testing at the manufacturing facility.
• Work with engineers to interpret design specifications, control drawings, and customer requirements.
• Develop and review wiring schematics and control panel layout drawings.
• Program and integrate HMIs and PLCs across platforms (Allen Bradley, Siemens, GE, Wago).
• Conduct system functionality testing at manufacturing facility and on-site.
• Support installation and field contractor activities at customer sites.
• Perform onsite startup, commissioning, and validation.
• Assist with tuning PID loops and validating programming.
• Create field sketches and diagrams to communicate installation requirements.
• Assist with customer training and control system documentation.
