Job summary

Harris County's Development Services & Permits Division seeks an inspector to observe construction, ensure compliance with plans and regulations, and support emergency response duties. The role involves outdoor work, reading drawings, and public interaction.

Requires a high school diploma or GED; two years in engineering-related fields or a Bachelor’s/Associate degree in a related area. Valid Texas driver’s license and strong organization skills preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; a Bachelor’s or AA degree with engineering/architecture coursework is accepted.
• Two years of experience in engineering-related design, construction, or real property preferred.
• Ability to read drawings and maps; knowledge of regulatory agencies helps.

Responsibilities

• Inspect construction in the field and ensure compliance with plans and regulations.
• Observe all phases of construction activities outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Operate and maintain assigned vehicle; assist in disaster recovery and emergency duties.
• Maintain records and interact with the public; support additional duties as assigned.
