Job summary

S&ME Inc. is seeking a CEI Bridge and Roadway Inspector for Southern West Virginia within our Transportation team. The role focuses on overseeing bridge and roadway construction, monitoring quality and safety, and ensuring adherence to plans and regulations.

The inspector will conduct field inspections, sampling and testing, and maintain detailed documentation. Strong communication and math skills are essential, with potential travel and outdoor work in varied conditions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED with 4+ years highway-related construction or inspection experience.
• 2-year technical degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology with 2+ years highway-related construction experience.
• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Construction Engineering Technology.
• WV TRET Certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) in English.
• Strong math skills and understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure.

Responsibilities

• Oversee transportation construction projects with a focus on bridges and roadways, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with plans and specs.
• Perform field inspections, monitor contractor activities, and conduct material testing.
• Maintain inspection logs, daily reports, progress tracking, and document contractor payments and nonconformities.
• Ensure compliance with environmental permits, DBE, and EEO requirements during inspections.
• Attend meetings with contractors, engineers, and client representatives and provide timely project updates.
