Must be based - Midwest & East Coast USA

A commercial and industrial solar and battery storage developer operates across the United States, delivering distributed energy solutions that convert commercial rooftops, parking facilities, and underutilised land into productive generation assets. The company owns and operates a multi-gigawatt portfolio across multiple states, supplying clean energy to commercial and enterprise customers.

Supported by long-term infrastructure investment partners, the organisation is focused on scaling distributed generation and improving energy performance in constrained grid markets. The culture is centred on technical excellence, operational discipline, and effective execution.

The Field Inspection Engineer sits within the Diligence & Remediation team, responsible for evaluating operating renewable energy assets for acquisition, identifying technical and performance issues, and developing and delivering remediation solutions.

This role supports design review, performance assessment, site inspections, and coordination with internal engineering teams and external technical partners. It requires strong hands-on experience across design, construction, commissioning, and maintenance of solar and energy storage systems, with a focus on quality assurance and system reliability.

  • Review and assess engineering designs for operational solar and storage assets
  • Conduct site inspections covering electrical, structural, and installation quality
  • Analyse system performance data and investigate faults or underperformance issues
  • Interpret low- and medium-voltage drawings, schematics, specifications, and datasheets
  • Perform thermal imaging, insulation resistance testing, and support commissioning activities
  • Prepare and support commissioning and inspection documentation
  • Review PV modelling outputs (e.g., PVSyst, HelioScope, or equivalent tools)
  • Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of operational issues
  • Work with engineering teams and contractors to define and track remediation actions
Requirements
  • Ability to interpret civil, structural, LV and MV electrical drawings
  • Experience with central and string inverters, DAS, and communications systems
  • Background in solar construction, quality assurance, or O&M field roles
  • Understanding of electrical systems and relevant safety standards
  • Familiarity with monitoring and communications infrastructure (DAS)
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical capability
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint)
  • Experience with collaboration/project tools (MS Teams, Smartsheet, Procore, Monday.com)
  • Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% for site visits and technical support
  • Full driving licence with clean record
  • Up-to-date safety and technical training
  • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience
