Job summary

RS&H is seeking a Field Technician to join our Transportation-Construction Management team in Michigan. This field-focused role supports the inspection of transportation infrastructure and ancillary structures across the state, working with experienced inspectors and engineers to develop technical skills.

The position offers a Monday–Thursday schedule with four 10-hour days and travel by company truck, typically leaving Monday morning and returning Thursday evening.

Qualifications

• Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Have 1–2 years of relevant field experience in civil construction, underground utilities, infrastructure inspection, surveying, or a related field.
• Have the ability to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications.
• Have a valid driver’s license, be insurable, and be able to safely operate a company vehicle.
• Be willing and able to travel regularly, typically Monday through Thursday.
• Have a passion for working outside and a tolerance for exposure to the elements.
• Possess strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
• Have the ability to effectively interact with and build relationships with others.

Responsibilities

• Perform and assist with field inspections of transportation infrastructure and ancillary structures.
• Document existing conditions through field notes, photographs, measurements, and inspection reports.
• Read and interpret engineering plans, drawings, specifications, and other project documents.
• Complete accurate daily field documentation and inspection reports.
• Safely operate and maintain an assigned company truck and field equipment.
• Work outdoors in a variety of environments and conditions.
• Support inspection projects throughout Michigan and other regions as opportunities arise.
