Job summary

Conservation Legacy in Roanoke, VA seeks a GIS/Natural Resources Technician for an AmeriCorps Individual Placement to support the Forest Soil Scientist and GWJ National Forests. The role involves collecting and analyzing geospatial data, creating maps, and assisting with field data collection for watershed, soil, and geology programs.

The position is full-time (40 hours/week) as a temporary AmeriCorps service term, with a $900/week pay (biweekly $600 stipend + $300 benefit).

Qualifications

• Must be between 18 and 30 years old and a US citizen with a high school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license; able to work independently and as part of a team both in the office and in the field.
• Pursuing or holding a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in natural resources with geospatial focus; strong GIS skills.

Responsibilities

• Office Support: collect, organize, and manage geospatial datasets for land management projects.
• Identify modeling approaches for remote sensing products; build and field-test digital forms (Survey123, ArcGIS Online, ESRI Field Maps).
• Publish maps for reports and monitoring summaries; data cleaning and entry into USFS databases.
