Job summary

The City of Oceanside is seeking a Public Works Inspector to join the Development Services Department - Land Development division. The ideal candidate will have explicit geotechnical/soils inspection experience and will oversee on-site and off-site construction standards for streets, drainage, lighting, and landscape elements.

Responsibilities include attending pre-construction meetings, ensuring regulatory compliance, and preparing detailed reports on work progress and materials.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience inspecting public works construction (grading, streets, water/sewer, storm drains, landscape).
• Completion of the twelfth grade with specialized training in public works inspection.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.
• ACI or APWA Public Works Inspector certification desirable.

Responsibilities

• Inspect on-site and off-site construction of streets, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, storm drains, sewers, and utilities.
• Attend pre-construction meetings and on-site grading.
• Ensure regulatory approvals and erosion control / storm water measures are followed.
• Prepare and review designs, cost estimates, plans, specifications, and inspections.
• Review plans, check grades, test materials, and maintain records of quantities.
• Inspect landscape installations and private development plans within City responsibility.
• Issue stop-work orders or correction notices as needed and submit detailed progress reports.
