Job summary

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) is seeking a Food/Dairy Safety Inspector (Food Industry Field Scientist). You will perform inspections of retail stores, bakeries, warehouses and processing plants to ensure sanitation, proper packaging and labeling, and regulatory compliance.

This field-based role operates from a home workstation and requires residing in or relocating to Marquette or Delta County area within 10 months.

Qualifications

• Ability to project confidence and make sound decisions.
• Ability to prioritize risk and manage conflicts professionally.

Responsibilities

• Inspect retail stores, bakeries, warehouses and plants for sanitation and compliance.
• Perform milk sanitation inspections of dairy farms and plants.
• Investigate foodborne illnesses and consumer complaints; collect samples.
• Enforce food/dairy laws including packaging and labeling rules.
