Job summary

Washington State Department of Transportation is seeking a Field Exploration Operations Supervisor to oversee statewide drilling, scheduling, and field testing for design, construction, and emergency projects. You will supervise crews, manage equipment, ensure safety compliance, and coordinate training while driving operational efficiency.

Candidates should demonstrate leadership, cost management, and strong communication, with proficiency in MS Office tools.

Qualifications

Geotechnical drilling and field exploration experience with supervising multiple crews.
Experience planning, scheduling, and coordinating field operations.
Experience supervising and leading employees and teams.
Ability to identify safety risks and ensure compliance with laws and policies.
Ability to manage drilling fleet operations and resolve issues.
Experience coordinating training and maintaining certification records.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe PDF.
Growth mindset and service-oriented approach.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and long-range drilling schedules based on priorities and staffing.
Assign drilling projects to maximize efficiency while ensuring safety and compliance.
Schedule maintenance and locate equipment; order parts to keep crews working.
Troubleshoot and resolve field/drilling issues as they arise.
Ensure crews comply with agency policies, safety requirements, and SOPs.
Review daily drill/inspector reports for accuracy and metrics.
Prioritize work and allocate personnel, vehicles, and equipment to demand.
Operate state-owned vehicle for delivery of repairs and supplies.
Purchase and track equipment, tooling, and supplies; maintain inventory.
Track crane inspections and certification validity.
