LAUKOA in San Diego CA is seeking a Biological Monitor for a large government project along the US/Mexico border. The role emphasizes environmental field notes, surveys for listed species, and documentation to ensure compliance with project best management practices.

The ideal candidate holds a BS in biological sciences, has field monitoring experience, and can work outdoors in challenging conditions. Lodging and per diem are provided on a full-time schedule with overtime potential.

Qualifications

• BS in biological sciences or related field.
• At least two years of environmental monitoring at construction sites.
• Willing to work in inclement weather and possibly traverse steep terrain.
• Able to be in the field every weekday for one year.
• Strong written/verbal communication and organization; recording detailed data.
• Familiarity with taxonomy and plant identification near the U.S.-Mexico border.
• Experience with environmental monitoring at construction sites.
• Detail-oriented with problem-solving skills.
• Ability to multitask, travel, and work independently.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily environmental field notes with photographs regarding project compliance.
• Collect data and support surveys for listed species; report non-compliance to Government POC.
• Conduct pre-construction surveys for nesting birds and listed species as needed.
• Mark off areas to protect sensitive resources.
• Communicate effectively with construction personnel, Government, regulators, and stakeholders.
