Job summary

LAUKOA in Tucson, AZ seeks a field-based Environmental Monitor for a full-time, government-project role. The position requires BS in biological sciences, 2 years of site monitoring experience, and the ability to work outdoors in extreme weather and potentially rugged terrain.

Daily field notes, data collection, and reporting will be part of the job. Travel to project sites, strict safety awareness, and independence are valued.

Qualifications

• BS in biological sciences or related field.
• Two years of environmental monitoring at construction sites.
• Willingness to work in inclement weather and rugged terrain.
• Ability to work independently and in the field every weekday for a year.
• Effective written and verbal communication; strong data recording.
• Familiarity with taxonomy and plant identification near the U.S.-Mexico border.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Able to pass background and drug tests.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily environmental field notes with photographs regarding compliance with project best management practices.
• Collect project-related data, which may include supporting surveys for listed species; surveying out in front of construction, document potential environmental best management practices non-compliance and reporting to Government Point of Contact.
• Conduct pre-construction surveys for nesting birds, state and federally listed plants and wildlife, as needed.
• Mark off areas for avoidance to protect sensitive resources.
• Effectively communicate with a variety of personnel working on the project, including construction personnel, Government, colleagues, regulatory agencies or stakeholders, and others.
