Job summary

Norfolk Southern in the Field Engineering Trainee program offers a six-month training within the Maintenance of Way department, teaching inspection, construction, and maintenance of tracks and bridges under experienced supervisors.

After completing training, you will lead track maintenance teams, plan inspections, and coordinate defect remediation across a broad territory, with relocation and extensive travel for some roles.

Qualifications

• Preferred Level: Bachelor's Degree (BS); Other education and experience levels are considered.
• Preferred Majors: Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, Construction Management, General Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Biosystems Engineering, Management.
• In lieu of a degree: 4+ years of leadership and industrial experiences such as military, manufacturing, construction, agriculture, production environments, or other leadership roles.

Responsibilities

• Train under current supervisors to learn inspection, repair, and maintenance of railroad tracks and bridges.
• After six months, manage track maintenance employees and be involved in track inspections and defect remediation scheduling and execution.
• Relocation may be required; extensive travel for some positions.
