Job description

Field Engineer – Exterior Restoration & Structural Rehabilitation

We’re looking for a Field Engineer with a strong background in building restoration, façade inspection, and structural rehabilitation to join our growing team.

If you’re an engineer who enjoys being out in the field, solving real construction challenges, inspecting existing buildings, and working on complex restoration projects across New York City, this could be the right opportunity for you.

About the Role

As a Field Engineer, you’ll play a hands-on role in the inspection, documentation, and construction administration of exterior restoration and structural repair/rehabilitation projects throughout NYC.

You’ll work closely with project teams, contractors, building owners, and design professionals, spending significant time on active job sites. The role is particularly focused on projects involving NYC Local Law 126 requirements for parking garages and parapets, with opportunities to build on your technical and restoration expertise.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Conduct field inspections and site visits at active restoration and rehabilitation projects.
  • Assist with the evaluation and documentation of existing building conditions.
  • Support construction administration and monitor work for compliance with drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Prepare detailed field reports, inspection documentation, and technical correspondence.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and repair details.
  • Coordinate with contractors, consultants, property owners, and other project stakeholders.
  • Track construction progress and identify deficiencies or issues requiring attention.
  • Assist with projects involving façade restoration, structural repairs, parapet work, and parking garage rehabilitation.
  • Support compliance-related work associated with NYC Local Law 11 and Local Law 126.
  • Assist with NYC DOB filing and documentation processes where required.
  • Manage multiple active project sites while maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who combines strong engineering fundamentals with practical restoration experience.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience, ideally with a strong focus on façade restoration, building rehabilitation, structural inspection, or construction engineering.
  • Strong understanding of restoration and repair work in existing buildings.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and repair details.
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce clear, accurate field documentation.
  • Ability to work independently across multiple active NYC job sites.
  • Comfortable working in a field-based environment and interacting professionally with contractors and project stakeholders.

Preferred:

  • Experience with NYC Local Law 11 and/or Local Law 126.
  • Familiarity with NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) filing processes.
  • Experience with façade inspections, parapet inspections, parking garage assessments, or structural rehabilitation.
  • Relevant engineering certifications or credentials.

Why Join?

This is an opportunity to work on a diverse range of real-world restoration and structural rehabilitation projects throughout New York City.

This is more than a desk-based engineering position. You’ll be on site, involved in the work, and directly contributing to the preservation, repair, and rehabilitation of NYC’s existing building stock.

You’ll gain valuable experience across restoration, inspection, construction administration, and NYC regulatory compliance while working alongside experienced professionals.

Compensation

$80,000 – $90,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and certifications.
