(CLP), we support massive, 50-year utility privatization contracts nationwide, giving our team unmatched stability and exposure to the operation of over 50 substations and extensive microgrid networks. City Light & Power/CLP Engineering has been recognized by The Denver Post as one of the top workplaces for 2025.

Why CLPE?

  • End-to-End Exposure: Our engineers manage the full project lifecycle from planning and design to field commissioning and operations.
  • Cutting-Edge Tech: Lead roles in advanced microgrid projects (500 kW to 10 MW) and smart grid implementation.
  • Balanced Impact: A healthy mix of office-based design and field-based execution.
  • Purpose-Driven Culture: Growth in an environment built on accountability, integrity, and collaboration in the mission to modernize the national grid.

Position Description: The CLPE Field Engineers will work on the maintenance of the electrical systems of CLP’s utility privatization (UP) or CLPE clients with varying levels of independence, with support from our Electrical Engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and develop large distribution and substation projects for engineering review — projects requiring existing utility system reconfiguration, capacity increase, and/or protective device coordination.
  • Keep GIS and CAD drawings/standards up to date — support CartoPac data collection daily to maintain the system as-built condition in GIS; update system one-lines and other CAD drawings as needed.
  • Support engineer(s) on various projects – data collections, field verifications, relay settings download/upload, event data gathering, metering information tracking, and field wiring.
  • Maintain apparatus maintenance records and assist in developing R&R plans — review field inspections for QA/QC, track maintenance requests in GIS, track apparatus and device testing reports, and assist engineers in analyzing them.
  • Support asset inspections and maintenance workflow – help field crew with asset data collection, troubleshooting, adding data fields, and QA/QC data collection regularly.
  • Monitor reliability indices and support engineering in preparation of outage reports for large-scale faults and outages.
  • Support field troubleshooting and data gathering for fault events – download relay event data and assist field crew in troubleshooting faults and failures.
  • Serve as a key engineering POC for on-site field support as part of the engineering team.
  • Report to and interface with the engineering team, coordinating with other managers, operations teams, and customers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
