Job summary

PCL Construction is seeking a Field Engineer Intern for Summer 2027 across Minnesota and North Dakota, including Fargo and Grand Forks. You will support Field/Project Engineers, Project Managers and Superintendents on infrastructure projects in your community.

This internship offers hands-on site experience, safety and quality audits, and exposure to drawings, RFIs, surveying, and documentation. Housing allowances may apply for non-local interns; eligibility to work in the U.S. is required.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled as a full‑time student pursuing a degree relevant to the construction industry.
• Desire to pursue a career in construction project management, field supervision, or estimating.
• Proof of eligibility to work in the United States and 18 years of age or older.
• Possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation to travel to and from the job site.
• Able to work full time from May to August in MN or ND or other states where our construction projects are located (housing allowance provided if location differs).
• Able to navigate through a construction site on a daily basis, climb ladders and stairs.
• Based on client requirements, candidates may be required to complete a criminal background check.
• Employment with PCL is contingent upon passing a substance abuse test conducted by a third party.

Responsibilities

• Assists Field/Project Engineers, Project Managers, and Superintendents.
• Conducts safety audits and quality audits.
• Reads and understands drawings and specifications.
• Logs submittals and process RFI’s.
• Assists with surveying and project layout.
• Maintains and updates field drawings, field equipment and records.
• Assists with coordinating subcontractors, vendors, and field staff.
• Attends relevant project meetings.
• Prepares memos, letters, meeting minutes, contracts, and other forms and documents.
• Assists with project documentation requirements
• Assists with estimating and soliciting subcontractors and/or suppliers for information and pricing.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Able to work full time from May to August in MN or ND or other states where our construction projects are located (a monthly housing allowance will be provided to selected candidates who are working in an area different from their residence)
• Able to navigate through a construction site on a daily basis, climb ladders and stairs
• Based on client requirements, candidates may be required to complete a criminal background check
• Employment with PCL is contingent upon passing a substance abuse test conducted by a third party

The estimated wage for this role is $20-25/hour , based on your experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be confirmed as part of a personalized offer.
