Job summary

PCL Construction's Civil West division in California is offering a Field Engineer Intern position for the summer. You will support field staff, project managers, and trade partners on complex infrastructure projects while gaining hands-on experience.

Ideal candidates are full-time students in construction management or engineering, available May–August, willing to relocate to project sites, and eligible to work in the United States.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled as a full-time student in a construction-related program.
• Interest in pursuing a career in construction and hands-on field experience.
• Ability to work full time May–August and relocate to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Support Field/Project Engineers, Project Managers, and Superintendents.
• Capture safety and quality observations and assist with audits.
• Read and interpret drawings and specifications.
• Log submittals, process RFIs, and prepare reports.
• Assist with surveying, project layout, and field drawings maintenance.
• Coordinate material deliveries and document control.
• Attend project meetings and assist with documentation.

As a Field Engineer Intern for Civil West in California, Long Beach, California, Los Angeles, California, San Diego, California, San Francisco, California, San Luis Obispo, California, you’ll have the opportunity to supports the delivery of complex infrastructure projects while gaining hands‑on experience collaborating with field staff, project managers, and trade partners.

Responsibilities

• Assist Field/Project Engineers, Project Managers, and Superintendents

• Conduct safety audits and quality audits

• Read and understand drawings and specifications

• Log submittals, process RFI’s and prepare reports

• Assist with surveying and project layout

• Maintain and update field drawings, field equipment and records

• Assist with coordinating subcontractors, vendors and field staff

• Coordinate material deliveries and documentation

• Attend relevant project meetings

• Prepare memos, letters, meeting minutes, contracts, and other forms and documents

• Assist with estimating and soliciting subcontractors and/or suppliers for information and pricing

• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a degree relevant to the construction industry such as construction management, construction engineering, or construction technology.

• A desire to pursue a career in the construction industry

• Available to work full time from May to August

• Willing to temporarily relocate to project locations

• Proof of eligibility to work in the United States

• 18 years of age or older and possess a valid Driver’s License

• Employment with PCL is contingent upon passing a substance abuse test conducted by a third party.
