Job summary

IES is seeking a Field Engineer II to provide on-site data center services, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of data center infrastructure. You will support servers, storage, networking, and power/cooling systems while ensuring SLA adherence and safety compliance.

The role involves coordinating with customers and cross-functional teams, performing site surveys, and mentoring junior staff. Travel to customer sites and after-hours support are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, CS, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years supporting data center operations, field services, IT infrastructure, or similar.
  • Experience installing/troubleshooting servers, storage, networking devices, and cabling.
  • Windows and Linux server environments.
  • TCP/IP networking fundamentals, switching, routing, and connectivity troubleshooting.
  • Experience using ticketing/service management platforms.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in data center environments.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to customer sites.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, test, and support data center hardware (servers, storage, networking, racks, cabling).
  • Perform preventative maintenance and break-fix repairs.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, network, power, and environmental issues in customer facilities.
  • Deploy equipment, decommissioning, hardware upgrades, and refresh projects.

Job Summary

Field Engineer II - Data Center Services is responsible for providing onsite technical support, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of data center infrastructure and associated equipment. This role serves as a key technical resource for customers and internal stakeholders, ensuring data center systems operate efficiently, reliably, and in accordance with established service level agreements (SLAs). The Field Engineer II performs moderate to advanced technical tasks, supports critical infrastructure environments, and may provide guidance to junior technicians and engineers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, test, and support data center hardware including servers, storage systems, networking equipment, racks, and cabling infrastructure.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and break-fix repairs on data center equipment and systems.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, network connectivity, power, and environmental issues within customer facilities and data centers.
  • Execute equipment deployments, decommissioning activities, hardware upgrades, and technology refresh projects.
  • Respond to service requests, incidents, and escalations within established SLA requirements.
  • Conduct site surveys and assessments to validate installation readiness and identify potential operational risks.
  • Document service activities, technical findings, asset information, and customer interactions accurately within service management systems.
  • Coordinate with customers, project managers, vendors, and cross-functional technical teams to resolve complex issues.
  • Support data center power and cooling infrastructure by performing visual inspections and reporting operational concerns.
  • Adhere to all safety, security, and compliance requirements while working in customer and data center environments.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and provide after-hours support as required.
  • Assist with mentoring and training junior field engineers and technicians.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience supporting data center operations, field services, IT infrastructure, or related technical environments.
  • Experience installing and troubleshooting servers, storage systems, network devices, and structured cabling.
  • Working knowledge of Windows and Linux server environments.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals, switching, routing, and connectivity troubleshooting.
  • Experience using ticketing and service management platforms.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift equipment up to 50 pounds and work in data center environments for extended periods.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to customer sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Industry certifications such as:
    • CompTIA Server+
    • CompTIA Network+
    • Cisco CCNA
    • Microsoft Certifications
    • Certified Data Centre Professional (CDCP)
  • Experience supporting enterprise or hyperscale data center environments.
  • Knowledge of data center power distribution, UPS systems, and environmental monitoring.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and best practices.
  • Experience working in mission-critical or 24x7 operational environments.

Working Conditions
  • Regular travel to customer and data center locations.

  • Ability to stand, bend, climb ladders, and move equipment throughout the workday.
