Job summary

Hazen and Sawyer is seeking a Construction Inspector or Assistant Engineer to support water and wastewater treatment facilities in the Ashburn, VA area. In this role, you will observe and report on construction activities, collaborate with project team members, and document inspection activities.

Qualifications

  • Experience in municipal water and wastewater construction inspection preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review project specifications and drawings.
  • Provide document control and assist with RFIs and Submittals.
  • Coordinate communication among project stakeholders.
  • Perform field inspections for compliance with Contract Documents.

Job description

Hazen & Sawyer is seeking a Construction Inspector or Assistant Engineer to support the construction of water and wastewater treatment facilities and infrastructure in the Ashburn, VA area. The selected candidate will inform the CM team by observing and reporting on construction activities, effectively coordinating and collaborating with the project team members, and providing documentation and inspection activities for various water and wastewater facilities and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and interpretation of project specifications and drawings
  • Providing Document Control
  • Assisting in the processing and review of RFIs, Submittals and Shop Drawings prepared by Contractor
  • Maintain Change Order log
  • Assist in preparing weekly project meeting agendas and documenting meetings
  • Coordinating and facilitating communication between the contractor, Design Engineer, various project stakeholders, and the owner
  • Performing field inspection of Contractor’s daily operations for compliance with Contract Documents
  • Preparing sketches and assembling data for the Design Engineers use
  • Preparing daily and weekly reports on work accomplished by the contractor
  • Use of cloud‑based software or project documentation such as PROCORE
  • Other construction management activities as needed
Required Qualifications
  • Curious and committed continuous learner with positive attitude
  • Familiarity with construction methods typical of civil, structural, mechanical and/or electrical engineering work
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, organizational and problem‑solving skills
  • Experience working on and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
  • Willing to travel to projects in the area as needed
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project and related PC software packages used on construction projects
  • Experience in municipal water and wastewater or similar industry construction inspection preferred
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of construction / construction observation experience a plus
  • B.S. degree in a Civil/Environmental Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Building/Construction Science, or an Associate Degree in Engineering Science
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) or Construction Manager In Training (CMIT - Construction Manager Certification Institute/CMCI) Certification
