Job summary

Hazen & Sawyer seeks a Construction Inspector to support water and wastewater facility construction and related infrastructure. The role focuses on observing, reporting and coordinating with the project team, driving documentation and inspection activities.

Responsibilities include reviewing drawings and plans, monitoring safety, preparing daily reports, and verifying contractor pay applications. Travel to sites is required as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of construction/observation experience.
  • Familiarity with civil, structural, mechanical and/or electrical construction methods.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and strong organizational skills.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites in the area as needed.

  • Verify and track work per approved submittals and shop drawings.
  • Monitor safety compliance and contractor performance.

  • Maintain project records and redline/as-built drawings.
  • Coordinate with CM team, engineers, contractors and third parties.
  • Assist with startup, testing checkout and training activities.
  • Maintain inspection and testing documentation as required.

Job description

Hazen & Sawyer is seeking a Construction Inspector to support the construction of water and wastewater treatment facilities and infrastructure. The selected candidate will inform the CM team by observing and reporting on construction activities, effectively coordinating and collaborating with the project team members, and providing documentation and inspection activities for various water and wastewater facilities and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and interpret project drawings, specifications and work plans to verify contractor compliance
  • Conduct on-site observation, monitoring, inspection, and evaluation of construction activities
  • Verify and track work in accordance with approved shop drawing submittals
  • Observe contractor performance and compliance with safety requirements
  • Prepare daily reports, verify material quantities, Time and Material (T&M) records and review contractor pay applications
  • Monitor construction contractor’s adherence to project schedule and sequence of activities related to daily field observations
  • Maintain project redline and as-built drawings
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with the CM Project team, multi-discipline engineering teams, contractors and third-party inspection/testing firms
  • Assist and coordinate with project start-up, testing checkout and training activities
  • Maintain construction inspection and testing related documentation as necessary
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of construction / construction observation experience
  • Familiarity with construction methods typical of civil, structural, mechanical and/or electrical engineering work
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working on and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
  • Willing to travel to projects in the area as needed
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project and related PC software packages used on construction projects
  • Experience in municipal water and wastewater or similar industry construction inspection preferred
Preferred Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in a Civil/Environmental Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Building/Construction Science, or an Associate Degree in Engineering Science
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) or Construction Manager In Training (CMIT - Construction Manager Certification Institute/CMCI) Certification
