Job summary

SJ Hamill Construction in Charleston, SC is seeking a field engineering project support professional to assist with project controls, inspection of materials, and accurate layout on active jobs. You will work closely with Project Managers, Field Supervision, and craft personnel to help ensure quality, safety, and timely completion.

The role requires a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or construction management, experience in marine/heavy civil work, and the ability to travel and work

• Experience in marine and heavy civil construction.
• Knowledge of project management, procurement, estimating, scheduling, cost control, and safety compliance.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of the organization.
• GPS survey experience and capable of performing construction layout.
• Must be qualified and physically able to drive.
• Ability to travel and work extended periods on projects outside of office area.

• Assist project management with expediting deliveries, monitoring production, providing status reports, preparing billings, tracking equipment, providing survey layout, and preparing shop drawings/submittals.
• Ensure safety and quality protocols are followed per company and industry standards.
• Support pursuit and estimating process from searching for opportunities to estimating and take-offs for active proposals.
• Perform special projects and other duties as assigned for general organizational support.

Job description

This position will provide field engineering project support including inspection of project materials, providing work control guidelines required for accurate measurements, and ensuring correct installation of materials.This position will typically work closely with Project Managers, Field Supervision, and Craft on the jobsite to ensure successful project completion.

Primary Responsibilities

• Support overall construction activities by planning, organizing, and implementing the project controls system, subcontracts, and the management, purchasing, and scheduling of materials.
• Assist project management with a variety of items such as: expediting material deliveries, monitoring project production, providing project status reports, preparing monthly billings, tracking equipment utilization, providing survey layout, and preparing shop drawings/submittals.
• Ensure project safety and quality protocols are being followed per company and industry standards; personally setting a good example for worksite safety expectations.
• Support the pursuit and estimating process from searching out potential projects to estimating, planning, and completing take off quantities for active proposals.
• Performs special projects and completes all other duties as assigned or requested for the general support of the organization.

Minimum Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline or equivalent work experience.
• Experience in the marine and heavy civil construction industry.
• Knowledge of project management and administration, procurement, estimating, scheduling, project tracking software, cost control, engineering and project standards, and safety and environmental compliance, preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, as well as with customers and vendors.
• GPS survey experience and capable of performing construction layout.
• Must be qualified and physically able to drive.
• Ability to travel and work for extended period of time on projects outside of office area.
