Job summary

Holder Construction in Richmond, VA is seeking an Assistant Field Engineer to join our Operations team on our project. The role focuses on establishing project control, coordinating field engineering, and providing accurate layouts in line with schedules.

You will work with field crews and trade partners, use surveying tools, and support daily project needs while adhering to OSHA safety standards and traveling as required.

Qualifications

• Has had previous experience leading construction layout crews.
• Ability to operate total stations, site levels, lasers, data collectors, and tablets.
• Strong understanding of structural, architectural, civil, and shop drawings.
• Basic knowledge of AutoCAD, Bluebeam, layout means and methods, and general building/site constructability.
• Working knowledge of common field tools, including tape measures, hammers, torpedo levels, stick rulers, framing squares, and 2-foot or 4-foot levels.
• Intermediate math and reading skills, including basic algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain vertical and horizontal project control.
• Support and oversee field engineering crew activities with guidance from a Field Engineer.
• Plan, coordinate, and perform field engineering and layout operations using surveying equipment.
• Provide accurate and timely layout for construction activities in accordance with project schedules and field priorities.
• Verify layout accuracy and tolerances in accordance with contract drawings and project specifications.
• Collaborate with field crews, project teams, and trade partners to coordinate daily activities and resolve layout issues.
