Job summary

Motorola Solutions is seeking a Field Engineer to implement and support complex communications systems and related sub-systems. The role involves onsite and remote configuration, testing, and documentation across RF, network, and server environments.

You will collaborate with engineering and project teams, generate weekly progress reports, and ensure system performance meets customer expectations. This position requires travel and a strong background in RF and IP networking.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in LMR, RF systems, or related fields.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required.
  • U.S. citizen with ability to obtain security clearance.
  • Willingness to travel 50–75% as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Engineering, PM, and Sales to design, implement, test, and document complex systems.
  • Provide weekly activity reports and project updates.
  • Oversee onsite installation of network, server, and RF equipment using design drawings.
  • Create as-built documentation and baseline reports.
  • Configure networks, servers, RF, and databases onsite and remotely.

Department Overview

The Field Engineer is responsible for the Implementation of complex communication system infrastructure and technical support of specialized sub-systems and product applications, This includes troubleshooting software-driven electronics, IP networks, server and network hardware, and performance verification and optimization of RF and broadband architecture including legacy analog, advanced digital P25, and data infrastructure. Job Description


  • Team with Engineering, Project Management, and Sales personnel to effectively design, implement, optimize, test, cutover, and document advanced communication systems that meet or exceed customer expectations

  • Provide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments.

  • Utilizes system design drawings, planners, and product documentation to oversee the onsite installation of network, server, and RF equipment.

  • Provides as-built information for the final system documentation package.

  • Utilizes network design tools, formalized process documents, and customer input to perform onsite and remote configuration of network, server, RF, and databases.

  • Provides as-configured documentation and baseline reports.

  • Utilizes system logs and tools to perform onsite and remote troubleshooting of networks, servers, databases, and RF infrastructure.

  • Verifies system logs and event monitoring applications are clear of any faults.

  • Utilizes product and system test plans to perform acceptance testing. Corrects any deficiencies found during testing. Provides accepted test results for the final system documentation package.

  • Utilizes product specifications, FCC license data, and design parameters to perform performance verification/optimization of advanced digital and legacy analog RF infrastructure. Provides baseline measurement data and accepted test results for the final system documentation package.

  • Utilizes project design drawings and customer current system information to design/develop solutions to difficult technical issues encountered as part of system implementation, upgrades, or support issues.

  • Perform preventative maintenance routines to ensure proper system operation with a focus on trend analysis and documentation of results.


Preferred Knowledge/Skills


  • Unique combinations of multi-site RF communications systems and computer/networking skills are required.

  • Strong knowledge of LAN/WAN IP networks, and must be proficient in computer network installation, configuration, and maintenance of systems including cabling, routers, switches, and firewalls.

  • Experience with installation, administration, and troubleshooting of: Server Virtualization, specifically with VMWare ESXi v.6+ and/or Microsoft Hyper‑V 2012+ Server Operating Systems, specifically Windows Server 2008 R2, 2012 R2 and 2019 Workstation Operating Systems, specifically Windows 7 & 10 Switches, routers, firewalls, specifically HP and Juniper.

  • Knowledge of secure products/protocols (KMF, KVL, AES).

  • Knowledge of RF systems, such as transmitters, receivers, filters, and antenna networks.

  • Experience working on Project 25 products (trunked and conventional).

  • Demonstrate systems experience and have related experience with the following equipment: Motorola base stations (Quantar, G‑Series) Motorola consoles (MCC7500, AXS) Astro25 Master Site equipment Astro 25 Multisite and ASR equipment Channel Banks and T1 Circuits Knowledge of standard telephony and dedicated data circuits, as well as knowledge of packet‑switching techniques.

  • Experience with logging recording systems.

  • Skilled in the use of various communications test equipment including: Communication system analyzers (S412E LMR Master, Viavi 3920B) RF Power Sensor Ethernet test sets (Anritsu 9090A, VeeX MTX150, T‑BERD 5800 T1 test sets TIMS (Transmission Impairment Measurement Set)).

  • Experience with Motorola subscribers (APX, APX Next), and CPS programming software.

  • Highly computer literate with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Google G‑Suite applications.

  • Strong self‑management skills and “people” skills to work closely with Motorola’s customers and partner community, as well as Motorola Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and Customer Service teams.

  • Self‑motivated and self‑managed to perform the required duties at a distance from direct supervision.

  • Able to operate under stressful situations to resolve customer problems quickly.


Candidate Requirements


  • Preference will be given to candidates located near Little Rock, AR, Shreveport, LA or Jackson, MS.

  • Must have excellent communication skills and always present a professional image.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and no traffic violations.

  • Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customers.

  • Willing to travel extensively as needed (>75%).

  • Ideally, the individual should have or be pursuing at least one industry network certification.

  • Examples include: CompTIA Network+ CompTIA Security+ Juniper JNCIA Cisco CCNA Nokia NRS1.

  • Target Base Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000 USD.

  • This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice’s “Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy” and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.


Basic Requirements


  • 4+ years of experience in one of the following: LMR, RF Systems, Radio Frequency, Radio Communications, Two‑Way Radio experience, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, Motorola equipment, Telecommunications, Public Safety, Engineering, IP Networking, Solutions Architecture, ASTRO25, P25, WAVE VoIP, or Military experience.

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required.

  • Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract(s).
