Job summary

Kinsley Steel, Inc. in Sterling, VA is seeking a Full-Time Field Engineer to join our onsite team on steel construction projects.

You will help ensure precision in layout, alignment, and data collection while supporting safety, quality, and production goals. Daily duties include using surveying tools to collect field data, verifying elevations, producing as-built drawings, and coordinating with crane crews and other trades.

Qualifications

  • Experience in structural steel erection is preferred.
  • Ability to collect and present accurate field data.
  • Proven attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Effective communication with team and subcontractors.

Responsibilities

  • Use surveying equipment to collect accurate field data for building layouts.
  • Ensure safety and quality on site while supporting production goals.
  • Travel to job sites for data collection and coordination.
  • Verify elevations and alignments of embeds and columns.
  • Produce as-built drawings when required using CAD/Bluebeam.
  • Coordinate with crane and steel installation activities on site.

Day To Day Responsibilities
  • Utilize surveying equipment to collect and present accurate data for practical field use, ensuring precision in building control lines, and establishing column placement and anchor rod locations
  • Promote a strong safety culture while emphasizing the core priorities of Safety, Quality, and Production
  • Travel to job sites for data collection
  • Verify elevation and alignment of embeds, provide as-built drawings
  • Utilize software applications such as Trimble, Bluebeam, CAD, & Microsoft Office applications
  • Deliver information for column and steel installation alignment, creating anchor rod surveys, and producing as-built drawings when necessary
  • Maintain building plumbness and square, coordinating with other trades for accurate steel placement, and assisting with various steel installations
  • Assist with miscellaneous steel placement such as monumental stair and shaft steel
  • Coordinate crane beam install and steel that correlates other trades work that effects steel placement and accuracy
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Prior experience in Structural Steel Erection preferred
  • Experience in surveying slopes/grades/wall lines for miscellaneous metals
  • Knowledge of using total station or similar surveying equipment
  • Availability for travel to field sites
  • Able to work at heights in an aerial lift or on elevated steel floors, emphasizing the importance of safety and adherence to protocols
  • Thorough understanding of AISC requirements for building orientation and alignment
  • Exceptional attention to detail to ensure accuracy in data collection and building control lines
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to effectively collaborate with team members and subcontractors, promoting a culture of safety and quality onsite
