Job summary

VCA Structural is seeking a Field Engineer to support construction projects, observe work, identify issues, and ensure alignment with structural plans and design intent.

You will assist with RFIs and shop drawing reviews, coordinate between jobsite and office, document site conditions, and help resolve field challenges while maintaining communication with contractors and inspectors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering required.
• EIT is required; PE in progress or preferred.
• 2–5+ years of field experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of structural systems (wood, steel, concrete, masonry).

Job description

VCA Structural is seeking a Field Engineer to support projects during construction and serve as a key link between the jobsite and the office. This role focuses on observing work in progress, identifying issues, and helping confirm that construction aligns with structural plans and design intent.

You’ll also support Construction Administration efforts, including shop drawing reviews and RFI responses, while working closely with internal teams, contractors, and inspectors to help resolve field conditions in a practical and timely manner.

• Assist with RFIs and shop drawing reviews

• Help troubleshoot field and constructability issues
• Coordinate between jobsite and office for timely follow-up
• Manage multiple projects and stay responsive to field needs

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s in Civil or Structural Engineering
• EIT required; PE in progress or preferred
• 2-5+ years of experience (field exposure is a plus)
• Strong understanding of structural systems (wood, steel, concrete, masonry)
• Ability to read structural drawings and details
• Familiarity with codes (IBC, CBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC, NDS)
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Tools & Skills

• Exposure to RISA, ETABS, RAM, SAFE (or similar)
• Ability to clearly document field conditions

• Able to perform field observations independently within 30-60 days
• Accurately interprets structural plans and field conditions
• Supports RFIs and shop drawing reviews effectively
• Communicates issues clearly and professionally
• Builds strong relationships with field teams
• Manages multiple projects while staying organized and responsive
