Field Systems & Technical Support Engineer
Location: New Jersey (Hybrid)
Reports To: VP of Operations
Company Profile
We build high-performance computer vision and biometric intelligence platforms relied on by global public safety, government, and enterprise security organizations. Our software analyzes live stream and archival video feeds to identify targets of interest and uncover actionable situational intelligence. Engineered to deliver exceptional accuracy under harsh real-world conditions, our architecture is developed around strict privacy governance and ethical compliance frameworks.
Position Overview
Embedded within our global field operations division, this role acts as a primary technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) working in close coordination with our US commercial organization. You will hold complete end-to-end operational ownership across Deployment, System Enablement, and Tier-2 Technical Support—handling end-user onboarding, software staging, partner training, and root-cause troubleshooting through to complete issue resolution.
Additionally, you will provide technical engineering backing to our Sales Engineering and Client Success teams during high-touch engagements, including live software demonstrations, proof-of-concept (PoC) trials, and technical site evaluations.
Ideal candidates bring well-rounded systems engineering expertise across both Linux and Windows environments. High priority is placed on command-line interface (CLI) diagnostics within Linux, alongside practical exposure to containerized architectures (Docker/Kubernetes) and IP network configurations.
- Hybrid Work Model: Home-based flexibility combined with customer field visits and regular collaborative working sessions at our New Jersey location.
- Travel Requirements: Up to 30% domestic travel, with occasional international travel to assist deployments in adjacent regions.
- Global Team Alignment: As part of an international engineering organization, occasional early-morning or late-evening syncs outside standard operating hours may be necessary, along with sporadic weekend coverage driven by critical client milestones. Flexibility is essential.
Key Responsibilities
1. System Delivery, Training & Operational Support (Primary)
- Lead customer and partner system installations across all deployment stages (from initial PoC through enterprise scale-up), optimizing system parameters for peak detection accuracy.
- Deploy, configure, and maintain software integrations and Video Management System (VMS) extensions; maintain detailed build documentation, installation procedures, and field issue trackers.
- Author comprehensive engineering documentation, including pre-install site audits, structural design blueprints, hardware capability sizing matrices, and Factory/Site Acceptance Testing (FAT/SAT) packs.
- Provide 1st and 2nd line technical support, applying deep Linux and systems-level diagnostic methodology (analyzing system services, network traffic, diagnostic logs, and containerized microservices), escalating complex software bugs to core engineering as required.
- Design and deliver technical training programs for end-users and integration partners while maintaining internal knowledge bases and field installation manuals.
- Accurately document product bugs and track software remediation through to final customer deployment.
2. Presales & Client Success Alignment (Secondary)
- Serve as lead technical engineer during live software demonstrations, PoCs, and high-visibility client site visits.
- Draft technical content for RFI/RFP submissions, architecture diagrams, and custom solution designs.
- Support Customer Success on routine technical health checks, software upgrades, and infrastructure reviews tied to client contract renewals.
Professional Qualifications & Competencies
- Core Systems & IT Foundations: Deep understanding of IT/systems fundamentals, including Linux environments (preferably Ubuntu), IP networking (TCP/IP subnetting, routing, VPNs), and structured diagnostic methodology.
- Terminal & Diagnostic Proficiency: High comfort level working inside the Linux CLI; willingness to inspect log files, system services, local firewalls, and port-forwarding rules.
- Containerization & Scripting Aptitude: Practical experience or strong technical aptitude for containerized environments (Docker), Kubernetes orchestration, basic scripting, and API communication.
- Communication & Security: Clear, professional written and spoken English skills; capable of remaining calm under pressure during live client issues. (Conversational Spanish skills are advantageous but not required).
- Legal & Travel Status: Valid US work authorization, an active passport, the eligibility to obtain security clearance as needed, and full alignment with the travel schedule outlined above.
Strongly Preferred Qualifications
- Domain experience in facial recognition, biometric verification, or automated video analytics.
- Practical familiarity with physical security platforms and VMS architectures (e.g., Milestone XProtect, Genetec Security Center).
- Hands-on exposure to Docker, MongoDB, REST/Swagger interfaces, and foundational cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Shell scripting (Bash) or Python for workflow automation, system diagnostics, and utility tooling.
- Practical experience leveraging modern AI-assisted developer/CLI environments (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) for log analysis, rapid scripting, and documentation generation.
Experience Profile
We welcome early-career candidates who demonstrate exceptional Linux and systems troubleshooting aptitude. Typically, this translates to 2-5 years of experience in technical support, systems engineering, field engineering, or an adjacent technical track, paired with concrete evidence of continuous learning (e.g., personal home lab environments, personal technical projects, industry certifications, or API integration work).
