Job summary

Arizona Public Service is seeking a Construction and Maintenance Planner to coordinate resources for construction and maintenance projects, ensuring proper materials, equipment and manpower for timely completion. The role acts as Project Leader for multiple projects and performs field duties at various sites, with substantial time outdoors.

Responsibilities include designing simple projects, providing cost estimates, and ensuring safety procedures are followed.

Qualifications

  • High school degree or GED with two years journeyman electrician experience.
  • OR Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or equivalent with two years in construction, engineering, operations, or maintenance within the utility or related industry.
  • OR high school degree/GED with seven years equivalent education/experience in utility construction, engineering, operations, or maintenance.
  • Some positions may require experience with rubber glove (RG) practices.
  • Working knowledge of APS policies, environmental regulations, Labor agreement, APS Construction Standards, Accident Prevention Manual and OSHA standards.
  • Good communications and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison with customers (internal/external) on projects and ensure requirements are understood and met.
  • Coordinate resources for construction projects and ensure multiple crews are staffed.
  • Order project materials with 2–3 day lead time to ensure availability.
  • Oversee garage inspections/repairs and maintain vehicle records.
  • Perform design duties for simple projects and provide cost estimates.
  • Assist Designers and Project Leaders on complex designs.
  • May ensure safe operation of sub-transmission and distribution systems, including on-call storms.
  • Serve as environmental contact for issues, train employees, manage MSDS and waste shipments.
  • Perform trench/panel inspections and coordinate warehouse/haulage for materials.
  • Promote safety and conduct safety meetings; maintain department documents.
